Volkswagen Up!: the lowdown
Volkswagen today unveiled what it hoped will be the modern-day successor to the Beetle: the Up! concept, a small city car targeted at the young, the cash-poor, and the environmentally aware. Available with either a rear-mounted two- or three-cylinder engine, a production, rear-wheel drive Up!
Two years after the Seat Altea hatchback was launched comes the extended XL version, which effectively becomes a mini-MPV thanks to a 187mm increase in length. This of course benefits the interior most, the trunk growing from 409 liters to 635 with the rear bench pushed forward - though is conspicuously without the extra row of seats offered by rivals. Outside, changes are most noticeable at the rear where the styling theme has been softened to reflect the car's renewed family-focus.
Restaurants on wheels have been taking over the eating scene in many major cities, but Oscar Mayer's Wienermobile might be the original "food truck."
Now the company is embracing the growing culinary trend with a new version of the iconic vehicle that will dole out hot dogs from its mobile kitchen. The launch of the food truck marks the 75th anniversary of the Wienermobile. Celebrity chef Tyler Florence, host of TV series The Great Food Truck Race, partnered with Oscar Mayer on the unveiling of the vehicle in New York's Times Square this week.
